Here’s another photo editing service I heard about, but haven’t used personally.

It was suggested by someone at Ravelry.com. Supposedly easy to use for those who aren’t so technically inclined. I believe it is a completely online tool used through your web browser so there is no software to download or install. It’s also free (for the basic version) and no registration required. I started to click through to try it out but it’s telling me I need to update Adobe Flash Player to version 9 and I don’t feel like it at the moment, so I guess I’ll have to try it out later.

Here’s a nice online utility for resizing and cropping photos (for those who either don’t own photo editing software such as Photoshop, or don’t know how to use it):

Someone in the Ravelry.com forums suggested this for editing/creating avatars. The avatars on Ravelry have to be max size of 100 by 100 pixels, so select the “on  your own” option to be able to use custom settings not offered in their “wizard”.

This doesn’t give you as much control or power as photo editing software such as Photoshop, but it’s quick and easy and very usable for non-techies or those who don’t have or don’t know how to use photo editing software.
